Branding for Festival
Texas hot sauce festival happens every year in Austin Texas with a different design each year. The festival allows brands and people to come and showcase their hot sauce for the locals of Austin.
The Challenge
The goal was to make festival branding for the Hot Sauce Festival that would appeal to hardcore hot sauce fans but also people who might only be into mild sauces.
Mood board
Many interesting hot sauce brands came up while I looked for my inspiration. I felt drawn to the classic images of skulls and flames. This festival branding was about to be on fire!
Concepts
Many of my sketches felt like classic intense hot sauce bottles but I wanted something to appeal to the much less intense or even wimpy hot sauce enjoyer, so I added a bell pepper.
Revisions
Bell peppers aren't spicy at all so it was a good contrast with the tongue on fire. I made the font myself with the pen tool in illustrator. I wanted to make something that could be imagined on a hot sauce bottle.
Finals
I ended up making all the fonts for both images that I went with. I added a heavy metal inspiration to the bell pepper's font for contrast.
Mock Ups
Reflection
This was my first time making festival branding and it was more fun than I had anticipated. I enjoyed making something that I wanted to stand out and catch people's eyes. I did have a harder time picking colors and I spent a lot of time deciding what directions to go in.
