Texas Style Rice

Branding for Texas Rice

Founded in 1905 in South Texas, Texas Rice is a boxed rice brand with intense spices.

The Challenge

I picked a package design that I thought needed a transformation. I was house sitting at the time and came across Texas Rice in the panty. The design stuck out at me. It was so intense and dark, I thought I could lighten it up in a fun way. This project was completed for a design communication class.

Mood board

I found western elements to draw inspiration from and a color palate that complimented them.

Concepts

I wanted to use stars for sure in my final design. I liked the idea of having a cowboy hat through out the packaging.

Revisions

I tried different colors for the digitals, but decided that the colors where too pronounced for the style I was going for.

Finals

I illustrated a lot for the final design which I didn't expect to do but it worked out well and gave the western feel I was looking for.

Mock Ups

Reflection

For this project, I wanted to stick to a certain casual western aesthetic. I redid the front of this package many times to get exactly what I wanted. I think I could have been more patient on this project in the end but I like the illustrations I did for this.
